Max Wober January exit on cards at Leeds United after not getting wish

Red Bull Salzburg are plotting a move to re-sign Max Wober from Leeds United in January, according to Kurier.

The Austrian newspaper reported via its website on 2 December that the 26-year-old is an option to add experience to Salzburg’s defence.

Wober wanted to return to the Austrian Bundesliga club, where he spent four years before moving to England, in the summer, but the transfer did not go through.

Wober is seemingly open to leaving Elland Road after falling down the pecking order upon returning from his loan at Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer.

The Austria international has been restricted to just two appearances in the Championship, with a lengthy knee injury not helping his cause.

With Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon establishing themselves as Daniel Farke’s first-choice centre-back pairing, the former Ajax star is facing an extended period on the bench unless one of them gets injured.

However, it is worth noting that they are the only three senior central defenders Farke has in his ranks this season.

18-year-old James Debayo has been with the squad this season, while emergency midfield signing Josuha Guilavogui can also slot in at centre-back.

So, it remains to be seen what the Yorkshire-based club will do if they receive an offer for Wober from Salzburg in January.

With the defender contracted to them until 2027, they are in a position to demand a significant sum.
