Max Wober deal done as Leeds exit fee reveal shared

Max Wober looks set to complete a deal to depart Leeds United.

The Austria international has had a mixed bag of a spell at Elland Road since signing from RB Salzburg back in January 2023.

This has seen him play a bit part role in promotion from the Championship after returning from a loan spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 2023/24 campaign.

Now it finally appears as the 27-year-old has landed a permanent move away from the Whites ahead of pre-season in Yorkshire.

Wober agreement reached at Leeds United

It makes total sense for the ex-Sevilla man to complete a move away from LS11 after such a frustrating spell in recent years.

This is especially the case after the early summer signings of Jaka Bijol from Udinese and Sebastiaan Bornauw from Wolfsburg this week.

As a result, the Whites will have been keen to land some sort of fee for the Austrian to put back into their transfer funds for later in the window.

This is exactly what they have managed to do as Wober looks to have agreed to a Leeds United exit with plenty of time to spare until the season kicks off.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg (2 July) has reported that a transfer to Bundesliga outfit Max Wober can be “considered a done deal”.

A full agreement has been reached with the Yorkshire club, with a deal in Germany set to be agreed within three days and run until 2029.

This deal will now see Leeds pocket a “low single-digit million fee”, which is ultimately better than nothing for a surplus-to-requirements player.

Leeds United glad to receive fee for Wober

Given that the Whites paid a fee in the region of £11m for the defender, it is fair to say that they will have wanted to bring in as close to that as possible.

That probably wasn’t a likely option for Daniel Farke and Co., who appear to be happy with whatever they can get above a free transfer for the Austrian.

As a result, even bringing in a low fee can only be seen as a positive, with additional funds and wages now available for other summer signings.
