Mateusz Klich reacts as Leeds United exit finally confirmed at Elland Road

Mateusz Klich has sent Liam Cooper a new message after the defender’s Leeds United exit was finally confirmed at Elland Road.

The Whites announced that the Scottish international’s spell at Leeds had come to an end with an official statement on Wednesday (11 September) with Cooper set to join CSKA Sofia on a two-year contract [Beren Cross, 9 September].

Cooper’s exit has been coming for some time after his contract with Daniel Farke’s side expired at the end of last season, but several former teammates were quick to react as his departure was announced.

Commenting on Cooper’s Instagram post on Wednesday (11 September) Klich said: “It’s been pleasure,” followed by heart eyes and a red heart.

Has Liam Cooper completed his Leeds United exit at Elland Road?

He may not have been an integral part of Farke’s plan on the pitch in his last season at Elland Road, but it is clear from the reaction of both supporters and former teammates that Cooper was still a key part of the team at Elland Road.

The outpouring of love for the Whites skipper has been incredible, even in the moments after his exit was confirmed by the club and it shows just how highly thought of the Scotsman was both as a player and a man.

It was the right decision on Leeds’ part to let him leave this summer. He wasn’t going to play regularly ahead of the likes of Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a shame to see him depart.

Hopefully, new skipper Ethan Ampadu will be able to do enough to replace the defender’s presence in the changing room this season. The Welshman will be keen to match Cooper’s past efforts and lead the Whites to a promotion.

It would be nice to see Leeds United do something to honour their departing captain in the coming days and really pay tribute to his excellent career at Elland Road.
