Mateo Joseph backed to exit Leeds on short-term deal after Farke axe

Leeds United will be ruthless this summer following their promotion back to the Premier League, as they aim to beat the drop next season.

Daniel Farke has guided Leeds back to the Premier League in his second season at Elland Road.

However, the German is now in danger of losing his job as the Whites seek an upgrade.

Leeds know the size of the task that awaits them in the Premier League, with the last six promoted sides failing to survive their first season in the top-flight.

As a result, the West Yorkshire side will need more firepower in attack, and should they sign a striker, young forward Mateo Joseph will find himself further down the pecking order.

Lee Hendrie claims Joseph should leave Leeds on loan

Joseph started the season well for Leeds. However, the 21-year-old fell behind Joel Piroe in the pecking order and saw his gametime decrease throughout the season.

Joseph is held in high regard at Elland Road, but pundit Hendrie has now claimed that the Spaniard should seek out a loan move to play more regularly.

“He has obviously been limited in the timescale of getting minutes on the pitch, but when he has played, he hasn’t quite delivered goals, which is what he is in the team for,” Hendrie told Football League World (1 May).

“I think sometimes you need a real good run in a side to prove your weight in gold, and I know that he is certainly a talent, for sure, but yes, I do feel that, is he going to play much in the Premier League? I don’t think he will do.

“It wouldn’t hurt him to go out and have a fresh start, even if it is somewhere until January, when the window shuts.

“Then he can go and get some football, and really put his name back out there. I do feel that it would be a great opportunity for him to go and get more minutes, stabilise the position playing where he wants to play, and still be attached to Leeds.

“I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea for him to go out and get some loan minutes and time somewhere, be it at the right club.”

Leeds should loan out Joseph

Joseph needs regular game time to continue his development, and with Leeds linked with strikers such as Richarlison [The Boy Hotspur], the youngster’s prospects of minutes in the Premier League are slim.

West Ham are reportedly interested in signing Joseph on a permanent deal [West Ham Way]. However, unless the finances on offer are too good to turn down, this should not be considered.

The Spaniard impressed when given a run of games at the start of the campaign, but his next challenge will be to add more goals to his strong performances. Farke’s potential exit could give Joseph a long-term lifeline at Leeds, with the German hardly using him in the second half of the season.

If Joseph joins a Championship side on loan, where he will be the main starter, he can continue to develop and potentially earn himself a place at Leeds the following year.
