‘Massive proposition’ – Former Leeds manager tips club to sign £70k/wk Man U star if promoted

Former manager Simon Grayson has said that playing for Leeds United would be a big draw for players if the club is in the Premier League.

And he said it wouldn’t matter whether the player was from Man United, as he tipped up a possible move for goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

The 33-year-old is David de Gea’s understudy and hasn’t made a single appearance in the Premier League this season.

His 14 appearances this campaign have come in the domestic cups and the Europa League.

Talking to the Daily Star Grayson said, “If Leeds get back to the Premier League, playing for the club is an exciting prospect for anybody.

“They’ll be attracting players from all other globe – regardless of whether they’re Argentinian or playing for Manchester United.

“Getting in front of the Elland Road faithful and working for Bielsa is a massive proposition.”

Grayson also said that Joe Hart could be another option for Leeds.

We agree with one bit of what Grayson was saying – that playing for Leeds in the Premier League would be a huge proposition.

Leeds and Man United are massive rivals still but if the Whites got promoted then they would have all the momentum, with United still struggling to retain their previous heights.

However, Leeds already have a long-term plan in place in goal. Kiko Casilla might be banned currently but the club has stood behind him and he’s on a long-term contract until 2023.

Illan Meslier is the future. The 20-year-old has impressed after standing in for Casilla although his stint in goal was curtailed by the Coronavirus outbreak.

The last thing we need is another expensive ageing keeper. Romero is reportedly on £70k-a-week at Man United and he’s 33.

Money will be spent if Leeds get in the Premier League but there are much better positions for Marcelo Bielsa to strengthen.
