Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca looks set to return to Elland Road following the conclusion of his loan at Real Betis, according to Pablo Salvago.

The Diario de Sevilla journalist reported that the Spanish midfielder, who departed Leeds United following their relegation from the Premier League, will be back in West Yorkshire "without knowing what will happen" this summer.

Leeds loaned Roca to Real Betis expecting the move to become a permanent one this summer, but after 35 appearances in all competitions, the Spanish club have not yet agreed any deal to sign the 27-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.

Leeds United loanee futures hinge on Premier League promotion

Leeds United had a summer of turbulence in 2023 following their relegation from the Premier League, with several players exercising clauses in their contracts allowing them to leave the club on loan deals.

While clubs like Leicester and Southampton were able to sell multiple players for huge sums of money, Leeds pulled in only slightly more than loan fees for Robin Koch, Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Maximilian Wober and Jack Harrison.

Leeds United
Marc Roca was loaned to Real Betis just weeks prior to the start of Leeds United's Championship season.

Roca was a member of this group who left the club temporarily for very little recompense, but despite a strong start to his Betis career, he will return to Elland Road with no agreement in place for the LaLiga club to sign him permanently.

Leeds could secure an immediate return to the Premier League as soon as 4 May, if they beat Southampton and Ipswich Town simultaneously lose to Huddersfield, and will otherwise enter the Championship play-offs.

The club's loanees are almost all set to return to Elland Road at the conclusion of this season, and if Leeds' play-off campaign is not a success - and history suggests it may not be - the future of players such as Roca is in line for another summer of uncertainty.
