Marc Roca in Leeds United transfer limbo as Elland Road exit delayed due to financial issues

Leeds United star Marc Roca is being forced to wait to complete his move to Real Betis due to financial constraints at the Spanish club, according to Diario AS.

The Spanish sports newspaper reported on Wednesday (12 July) the 26-year-old’s move is on hold because Betis need to offload some players and free up wages before they can bring anyone else in.

But AS is reporting that the Seville-based club’s boss Manuel Pellegrini is expecting “immediate departures” so he can have his signings in place before too long.

Swift resolution

It’s clear that Roca will definitely be playing no part in Leeds’ bid to gain promotion straight back up to the Premier League, so it’s in everyone’s interests to find a swift resolution to conclude the deal.

The reported offer from Betis would see him go on loan to the Spanish club, with them holding an option to bring him in on a permanent deal for £10.3million, according to Mundo Deportivo.

That would mark excellent business for the Whites after Roca joined the club from Bayern Munich for £10million last summer, meaning they would recoup all of the money they paid for him despite the relegation.

It’s important the deal doesn’t drag on any further, though, so that Roca can move on and be off Leeds’ books and the club can look to use those extra wages to bring other players in.

Although this latest development does seem to have caused a little bit of uncertainty, Betis appear to still be keen on getting the deal over the line and it should be completed before too long.

In other Leeds United news, a Whites target has moved quickly to follow some of his potential new teammates on social media.
