Marc Roca contract clause revealed as ‘Perfect’ scenario emerges at Leeds United
Marc Roca has a clause in his contract with Real Betis that would allow him to extend his loan deal if Leeds United fail in their bid for promotion this year, as reported by Estadio Deportivo.
The Spanish news outlet referred to the situation as the “perfect scenario” for Roca that Leeds don’t win promotion to the Premier League, as he would prefer to remain at Betis.
However, as quoted in the report, Roca revealed the details of the clause, although he insisted he hopes his parent club are promoted and wishes them the best.
Speaking to Estadio Deportivo on 23 January, Roca shared: “There is a clause like this year. If Leeds is not in the Premier League I can go out on loan again. Let’s see. It depends on whether they go up or not. I sincerely hope they go up because all the teams, I wish them the best.”
The move now seems inevitable
Despite Roca claiming he is cheering on Daniel Farke’s side in their promotion push, there will be part of him hoping they aren’t successful so that he can extend his spell with Betis.
Having spent the first half of the season on loan with Betis after leaving Elland Road following the club’s relegation, it feels inevitable that he will remain in Spain beyond the end of his current deal.
The Spanish club are hoping Leeds don’t earn promotion this season, as it would make the deal more difficult to pull off financially, and if the Yorkshire club remain in the Championship they will have several options to choose from to extend the midfielder’s stay.

However, even if Leeds are promoted, it looks unlikely that Roca would be willing to return to Elland Road, and therefore it may be in the best interests of all parties involved to come to an agreement for his transfer regardless of Leeds’ situation come May.
