Manchester United swoop to sign Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips not a priority due to difficulty

Manchester United are not banking on being able to pry Kalvin Phillips away from Leeds United in the summer, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing via his Patreon account today [8 April], the Sun journalist reported that a move to Old Trafford “would be difficult” for 26-year-old Phillips, who’s a Leeds fan and spent his entire career with the Yorkshire club.

Nixon’s update comes after the Manchester Evening News claimed the Red Devils are readying a bid to sign Phillips in the summer.

However, Nixon has been told by sources close to both camps that Man United have “other priorities”.

The Sun journalist added that there is some concern behind the scenes at Leeds about Phillips’ contract situation.

He said: “Leeds have said they will open talks with Phillips about a new deal in the summer although that may not be straightforward.

“Phillips is already on a big wage and offering more would stretch them.”

No chance

If Phillips was to leave Leeds, he’d join a better team than Manchester United.

As reported by Nixon, West Ham made a £55million move to sign the England midfielder in the January transfer window and they’re “the highest-ranked club to show any real interest”.

West Ham are a better prospect than Man United right now, they’re a club on the up with a good manager in charge.

Man United have been on a continual decline for years.

Phillips is also Leeds through and through. He knows it’ll be a heartbreaking day for the fans when he leaves the club so he’d want to do it in the right way.

And leaving Elland Road for them wouldn’t go down well at all and would put him in the bad books of many supporters.

We’re hopeful of Phillips staying on next season.

Raphinha will probably be on his way but if that means Phillips stays, we’d be more than happy.

Phillips is irreplaceable.
