Manchester United stance shared as Leeds United want to sign Brandon Williams

Manchester United are yet to make a decision on the future of Brandon Williams after Leeds were linked with a move, according to Football Transfers.

Writing on their official website (2 August), the news outlet report that Williams has impressed during pre-season and that Erik Ten Hag enjoys developing young talent.

Daniel Farke is keen to reunite with the 22-year-old (Independent, 1 August) after their short spell together at Norwich, but as it stands no decision has been made on whether Manchester United will allow him to leave.

“Manchester United defender Brandon Williams has enjoyed a decent pre-season campaign, but we are told that there is no decision over his future just yet,” they wrote.

“Leeds have been linked to Williams, but nothing has moved far along at this stage – the player is continuing his time working under Erik ten Hag during the summer.

“The club would rather make deals permanent at this stage of the season, but it’s not lost how much Ten Hag enjoys developing young talent. The 22-year-old full-back has been in good form during Man Utd’s tour of the States, but no formal decision has been made yet.”

Risk

Williams certainly ticks a lot of boxes for what Leeds fans want to see from their players at Elland Road.

He is fiercely competitive, a strong tackler, good on the ball, good going forward and defensively and still young enough to dramatically improve.

However the rivalry between the two clubs can’t be ignored and the fact he is such an avid Man United fan, as seen by how he called out Rio Ferdinand after Man City won the treble, could certainly cause some issues.

But if Farke wants him to offer competition at full-back it’s something the club should look into. A right-footed left-back means he’s capable of playing on both sides and that versatility is certainly something that would be helpful too.

We don’t have much time to strengthen however, so if Manchester United are going to keep us waiting until the end of the window then it may be worthwhile to look elsewhere anyway.
