Manchester United eye Leeds United ace Illan Meslier in new twist

Manchester United are keen on securing the services of Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist wrote on his Patreon on 21 December that the Premier League side’s scout Tony Coton fancies the Frenchman and per TBR’s Steve Kay, the 24-year-old is also understood to be on Arsenal’s radar.

It’s understood that the Old Trafford outfit are shortlisting keepers in order to keep Andre Onana on his toes and the Leeds number one is among their targets.

Leeds United can use this opportunity to cash in on Illan Meslier

The Whites fans are undoubtedly frustrated with Meslier’s inconsistency between the sticks for the first team.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, the Frenchman appeared to be among the best young keepers in Europe, but has not managed to stay consistent since then.

He has made needless errors in goal and his shot-stopping ability may actually have deteriorated since the club’s stint in the Premier League.

With Manchester United in the Premier League and throwing big money on players, Leeds can use their interest to cash in on the Frenchman.

Then they can either bring in a competent keeper on loan or permanently or give Karl Darlow a run as the first choice until the end of the season.

It remains to be seen if Manchester United can actually follow up on their interest with an official bid for the keeper.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign a defender who cost £11m in June with a transfer on the cards on one condition.
