Man City want Leeds to sign £13.6m Brazilian on loan if they win PL promotion - reliable journo

Leeds United may have missed out on signing Brazilian teenager Yan Couto – but they still have a chance of landing the right-back, according to Phil Hay.

Writing on The Athletic website, Hay has claimed that Leeds wanted to sign Couto, 17, from Cortiba but were beaten to the punch by Manchester City, who are set to pay £13.6million for the youngster when his move to England becomes official in the summer.

However Leeds might still be able to sign Couto with Man City reportedly keen for the Whites to take him on loan if they win promotion to the Premier League this season.

Of course, the current season is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic but it still seems that Couto could head to Elland Road in the summer transfer window if Leeds want him.

Former Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Hay adds that while Couto was a target for the Whites, they are not yet pursuing the idea of loaning the Brazilian.

Not a lot is known about Couto, who has not made a single senior appearance in his budding career.

He has 13 caps for Brazil at Under-17 level, one of which came in the Under-17 World Cup final when he assisted a goal in a 2-1 win over Mexico last year.

Couto must be a good prospect for the future for Man City to sign him up.

It remains to be seen if he’ll be signed on loan but that is something to think about in the summer.

In other Leeds United news, Hay has detailed the overwhelming view of Premier League and EFL clubs about the season.
