Lyon want to sign Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter, loan-to-buy deal on cards
Ligue 1 giants Lyon want to sign Leeds star Georginio Rutter on a loan-to-buy deal to replace the exit-bound Bradley Barcola, according to a report by 90min.
Writing on their official website (29 August), the news outlet report that Lyon are set to lose their starlet and have identified the Elland Road attacker as a potential replacement.
But the French side want a loan-to-buy deal while Leeds want at least £30m to allow him to leave at this late stage of the window, with a deal potentially accelerating once Barcola leaves for Paris Saint-Germain.

“And still according to our information, the Rhone club would have found its happiness in the Championship. He would discuss with Leeds United, for an arrival of Georginio Rutter. The 21-year-old striker has been with the Peacocks since January 2023 and his departure from Hoffenheim.
“Trained at Stade Rennais, the French international hopeful (2 selections) had been able to play four Ligue 1 matches.
“For the moment, a loan with an option to buy is mentioned. The English club are, however, waiting for an option of around 35 million euros (£30m), while it still cost 28 million euros (£24m). A file that could very quickly accelerate if Bradley Barcola joins PSG.”
Nail-biting
In the attacking areas of the pitch Leeds United are well stocked right now, and daniel Farke is unlikely to want to see that change.
Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford, Wilfried Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra, Crysencio Summerville, Ian Poveda, Joe Gelhradt and Daniel James currently make up our attacking options without including Rutter, and that could easily be the options at a Premier League club.

We want to get back to the top flight and that means making our squad as strong as possible in the coming days before the deadline, not weakening it at the last minute.
If Lyon want Rutter then they will need to step up their interest quickly, but also make an offer that suits us more than anything. A loan deal doesn’t make sense, unless there’s a clause in his contract like there were for others.
If they can’t do that he will stay, but with the French club expecting serious cash soon from Paris Saint-Germain for Barcola, it’s definitely one to watch.
