Luis Sinisterra: Three other clubs set for share of £20m Bournemouth to Leeds United payment
The £20million Bournemouth are paying to sign Luis Sinisterra permanently from Leeds United is set to benefit three other clubs, according to Pipe Sierra.
The South American journalist reported via Twitter on 9 February after the Colombian’s transfer was announced that five per cent of the fee will be shared among his two previous clubs, Feyenoord and Once Caldas, as well as Boca Juniors de Cali where he started as a youngster.
Sinisterra, 24, was already on loan at the Vitality Stadium this season, having pushed through a move on Deadline Day of the summer window, with Jaidon Anthony coming the other way.
There was a permanent clause in that loan agreement but according to the Bournemouth Daily Echo (8 February) this deal has been worked out independently for a lower amount in order to guarantee the Whites the money.
Sinisterra fee from Bournemouth to Leeds United to be shared around
Leeds United insist they haven’t made a loss on this deal [Phil Hay, 8 February] but if Bournemouth are that eager to get Sinisterra tied down permanently it is odd they have managed to do so for less than the previously-agreed clause.
It may be a small amount that is going elsewhere but it reduces the money arriving at Elland Road either way, and if clubs all the way back to his youth days are benefiting it seems a complicated arrangement.
Sinisterra himself said he previously had to take legal action to secure his release from Boca Juniors de Cali [Gol Caracol] so there was precedent for the dispute that saw him leave the Whites in August and perhaps Angus Kinnear and company should have been expecting it.
After an injury-hit but relatively impressive debut season with Leeds United the winger’s exit is a comparatively ignominious one.
But considering it will probably be a struggle for the club to make their money back on fellow loan departure Brenden Aaronson, and Robin Koch’s exit for nothing has since been confirmed, 95% of £20m is perhaps a reasonable return when the club haven’t ended up missing him on the pitch.
In other Leeds United news, an incoming loanee already wants to make his own deal with the Whites a permanent one.
