Local journo shares what he was told about Leeds hunt to sign player wanted by ‘half of London’

LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross has asked about whether QPR’s Eberechi Eze is a target for Leeds United this summer – and it doesn’t sound as though he is.

The Sun reported last month that the Whites are “locked in a battle” to sign the 22-year-old attacker along with West Ham and Crystal Palace.

QPR reportedly want £20million for Eze and although he’s one of the most talented players in the Championship, Cross reports that the attacking midfielder is not a serious target this summer.

“I like him. Leeds like him, but we’re nowhere near offering bids or anything like that. When I last asked about him, I was told he was not being actively chased. Think half of London want him too,” Cross said on the LeedsLive website in a Q&A session on Wednesday.

We’d be surprised if Leeds did meet QPR’s valuation of Eze.

There has been no suggestion from the journalist close to Elland Road that Marcelo Bielsa will have a huge transfer war chest to dip into this summer and if he did, would an attacking midfielder like Eze be his first port of call?

Eze spent most of last season playing on the left-wing while he can also play as a No 10.

Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez have played the central attacking midfield roles for Bielsa and they were so integral in the Championship that we don’t see them getting dropped for the Premier League.

Eze’s a good player but if Leeds were going to spend big money this summer it would be on someone like Ben White or a top-class replacement.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been linked with this Wales international.
