Loan exit likely as Leeds United transfer lined up for Kristoffer Klaesson
Rakow Czestochowa will likely loan a player out as they close in on the permanent signing of Leeds United goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson, according to Tomas Wlodarczyk.
The Polish journalist posted on X that when Klaesson does finalise his transfer to the Ekstraklasa side, one of their two current first-team goalkeepers is likely to be sent out on loan.
Muhamed Sahinovic and Kacper Trelowski’s places between the sticks will be under threat once Klaesson’s move is complete.
Klaesson may only have made two first-team appearances across three seasons at Elland Road, but could be first-choice at Rakow Czestochowa with a permanent switch on the horizon [Adam Pope, 6 July].
Kristoffer Klaesson transfer from Leeds United comes at right time
When looking back on his Elland Road career, Klaesson can take pride in having kept clean sheets in both his first-team appearances for the Whites, but the time is right for the 23-year-old to move on.
Only a few months younger than long-time number-one Illan Meslier, Klaesson has never been able to usurp his fellow youthful stopper as first choice, making his developing transfer understandable [David Ornstein, 2 July].
Meslier bucked a trend as by far the youngest goalkeeper playing regularly in the Premier League during his debut season in 2020-21, but Klaesson never quite had the same cut-through.
Joel Robles and Karl Darlow in recent seasons suggest the club wants a more experienced head as back-up to Meslier, pushing Klaesson further back in the pecking order.
Both the Norwegian and Meslier could end up departing this summer, leaving Darlow as the club’s sole stopper, but funds brought in for the pair may help to usher in a new era between the Elland Road sticks [This is Anfield, 9 April].
