Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester City want to sign Archie Gray from Leeds United

Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester City all want to sign Archie Gray from Leeds in the summer despite him signing a new contract in January, according to HITC.

The 17-year-old central midfielder penned a new deal at Elland Road to tie him down until 2028, after several top clubs were linked with an interest in the midfielder-turned-defender.

But despite that, all three super-rich clubs are planning to return in the summer and make a move for Gray and have not given up hope on convincing him to leave Yorkshire.

“Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United remain interested in signing Archie Gray from Leeds United, HITC understands,” they wrote.

“Sources have told HITC that Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Manchester City all wanted to sign Archie Gray from Leeds United in the January transfer window.

“HITC understands that Liverpool, Newcastle and City have not given up on signing the teenager. The Premier League clubs are continuing to keep close tabs on Gray, who is a midfielder by trade but has been playing at right-back under head coach Daniel Farke this season.”

Leeds United must keep Archie Gray no matter what

Liverpool, Newcastle and Man City will undoubtedly have the cash available to make any transfers they want this summer, and if Gray is a target Leeds should be wary.

We have seen in the past that the right offer makes the Whites consider a sale for all players, with Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha the most high-profile case and Luis Sinisterra the most recent.

But there is a difference with this deal, because Gray is Leeds through and through and has a legacy at this club already which far precedes his playing career and is bigger than just football at this point.

Leeds United

On top of that, the player is already one of the most important midfielders and squad members for Daniel Farke and while he will be just 18 once the summer rolls around his potential can’t really be quantified that way.

If the club get to the Premier League it will be far easier to reject those offers that are incoming but they must find a way to do so if they are still in the Championship too, because he is essentially irreplaceable at this point.
