Ligue 1 club wants to sign Leeds forward – report

Ligue 1 club Dijon are interested in signing forgotten Leeds United forward Jay-Roy Grot, according to Get French Football News.

The news outlet, which specialises in French football, reports on their website that Dijon have set their sights on Grot, 22, after missing out on Mustapha Bundo and Stiven Plaza.

Grot is third on the shortlist of strikers who Dijon want to sign this summer and with the Dutch striker in the final year of his contract at Elland Road, we would expect Victor Orta to be open to a sale.

Leeds signed Grot from NEC Nijmegen in 2017 but he has since scored just one goal in his 22 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

None of Grot’s appearances have come under Marcelo Bielsa, with the Netherlands Under 21 international being shipped out on loan to VVV-Venlo and Vitesse Arnhem.

Last season at Vitesse, Grot scored two goals and supplied one assist in 22 Eredivisie appearances, playing mainly as a left-sided winger rather than in his natural centre-forward role.

In his final appearance for Vitesse before the Dutch season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Grot scored a wonder goal in a 1-0 win over FC Twente.

Unfortunately, the striker also suffered a meniscus tear in the same match, leading to him to be substituted off and not playing for Vitesse again.

Grot is still officially a Leeds player but Bielsa does not seem to have any time for the Dutch forward, who Dijon reportedly see as “a quick, physical striker who can make deep runs”.

The French top-flight side are welcome to have Grot, which would mean yet another one of Victor Orta’s flops from his first season in Yorkshire is sold on.

We doubt that Leeds will get much money for the 22-year-old but at least it’ll be someone off the wage bill and an ugly reminder of the 2017/18 season is gone for good.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to re-sign this player for £15million.
