Liam Cooper desperate to stay at Leeds United despite exit development at Elland Road

Liam Coopers is desperate to stay at Leeds United this summer but Daniel Farke is waiting to see if promotion is secured to the Premier League, according to the Sunday People.

The Whites are preparing to face Southampton on Sunday (26 May) in the Play-Off final needing a win for a division rise.

Writing for the Sunday People, David Anderson (19 May, page 11) has suggested that Cooper’s Leeds future will be decided after the final whistle.

The Scottish defender wants to stay to reach 10 years at Elland Road while the club look “unlikely” to offer him a new deal if promotion is secured.

Should Leeds United keep Liam Cooper?

There is no doubt that Cooper is a legend at Leeds after nearly ten years since his move from Chesterfield in 2014.

He has gone on to make 284 appearances for the club under various managers across multiple leagues, including the Premier League.

Like many players who have been at the club in the long term, he played his best football under Marcelo Bielsa during his reign.

This season has seen him take up the role as more of a squad player given that he has made just 16 Championship appearances.

In the Play-Offs he has featured across just seven minutes as he came on late in the second-leg thrashing of Norwich.

Luke Ayling has made a decision on his future at the club [The Telegraph] which will see him depart for Middlesbrough over the summer.

It could be said that it may be a good chance for Cooper to also move on and forge a new path with another Championship side.
