Liam Cooper contract update emerges at Leeds United as decision due in days
Leeds United captain Liam Cooper will not definitely leave Elland Road this summer as he enters the final days of his contract, according to Beren Cross.
The outlet reported on its website on Thursday (27 June) that the Scottish international has now entered the final four days of his current deal with the Whites, with 31 June officially his final day of employment with the club.
However, Daniel Farke’s side are understood to be eager to keep the defender beyond the end of his deal and have offered him an extension with the final decision ultimately lying with Cooper himself [Leeds Live, 7 June].
No official announcement has yet been made by either the club or the player since the retained list was published and it seems as though the centre-back’s future hangs in the balance following Scotland’s Euro 2024 exit.
Will Liam Cooper leave Leeds United in summer transfer window at Elland Road?
Cooper’s future at Leeds United has been hanging in the balance ever since the Whites’ relegation from the Premier League. Last summer, he was linked with a move away from Elland Road and this year seems to be no different.
The Scottish international was little more than a bit part player under Farke last term as he was made to watch on from the bench as the Whites missed out on promotion via the playoffs, but his experience and leadership were key in the changing room.

If Cooper is willing to continue to play a bit part role off of the pitch and instead have a bigger influence off of it, signing a new deal will be a no-brainer. If however, he wants to play week in and week out, he will have to move away from Elland Road.
These will have been factors that he will have been considering over the last few weeks as he weighs up what is the best next step for him. Hopefully, some clarity will emerge from either the club or the player in the coming days.
It felt as though he said goodbye to the crowd following the playoff win over Norwich City, but there may well be one or two nights at Elland Road still to come for the skipper.
