Liam Cooper agrees new transfer after Leeds United developments

Liam Cooper has agreed a deal to sign for Hull City as a free agent after leaving Leeds United, according to Mike White.

The journalist reported via his personal X account [24 August] that the 32-year-old is set to return to the MKM Stadium, having been a part of the Tigers’ senior team between 2008 and 2012.

It is understood that the centre-back was seen sitting in Acun Ilicali’s private box during Hull’s 0-0 stalemate with Millwall on Saturday 24 August, and will be confirmed as a new signing in the final week of the transfer window.

Liam Cooper set to join Hull City after Leeds United exit

Despite only making eight starts in the Championship under Daniel Farke last season, the majority of fans will be saddened to see him finally find a new club.

Cooper was a leader at Elland Road, lasting 10 years at the club before becoming a bit-part player under the new manager, with Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu preferred in defence last term.

With Pascal Struijk now back from injury, and Max Wober attempting to win the fans back after leaving on loan, there is little room for the 32-year-old now.

However, the Tigers will be signing a very experienced defender for free, reuniting with his old club after 12 years away and 284 appearances for the Whites during that time.

MOT Leeds News were told on 19 August that the defender’s time at Leeds was finished as unrest plagues the West Yorkshire club this summer.

With Cooper’s next destination now agreed, it looks as though he could be returning to Elland Road this season, albeit as an opposition player rather than a Leeds defender.

This will give the fans at Elland Road the opportunity to give him the thanks and respect he deserves after devoting 10 years of his life to the club, even leading them back to the Premier League.
