Leonardo Balerdi loved at Marseille as Leeds United ready massive transfer push
Leeds United need to strengthen their squad as they prepare to return to the Premier League, and they already have Leonardo Balerdi in mind.
Daniel Farke’s side were strong going forward, and had a good record at the back, but they will definitely need upgrades at both ends of the pitch.
While a goalkeeper will be a priority for Leeds, defensive reinforcements are necessary as they make the step up to the top flight, and a centre-back is on the radar.
Marseille star Balerdi is now the subject of interest from Leeds, but signing the Argentinian will not prove easy.

Marseille want to keep Balerdi amid Leeds interest
Despite Leeds’ interest in Balerdi, it will be tough to prise him away from Marseille, who have just qualified for the Champions League.
It has been reported by French outlet Le10Sport that Balerdi is a much-loved figure in the dressing room, and that it would take a “big offer” to convince the Ligue 1 side to part ways with the centre-back.
Balerdi is Marseille’s captain, and the 26-year-old is a vital figure in their back line, both as a defender and as a leader.
Competition | Balerdi appearances |
Ligue 1 | 125 |
Champions League | 10 |
Coupe de France | 11 |
Europa League | 14 |
It is reported that Leeds and Roma want to sign the four-cap Argentinian, but given his status at Marseille, it would take a “big” offer to secure his signature, and the centre-back will also need convincing.

Balerdi would be excellent for Leeds
Despite the impressive performances of Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon, Leeds will need an experienced figure at the back as they attempt to survive in the Premier League.
With 163 Marseille appearances to his name, Balerdi would provide just that, and is also coming into his prime years.
Balerdi’s teammates at Marseille value him highly, and it is clear that if he joins, he would be someone who does not hide in the face of adversity, which Leeds may face, given the difficulty of the Premier League right now.
His signing does look difficult right now, but if Leeds are to win the battle against relegation, Balerdi is the calibre of player they will need in crucial positions, as they return to the top-flight for the first time since 2023.
