‘Leicester to sign Illan Meslier from Leeds United’ after Hermansen transfer

Illan Meslier could potentially seal an exit to Leicester City this transfer window after losing his place at Leeds United.

The French goalkeeper was dropped from the starting lineup at the Whites towards the end of last season and doesn’t seem to have a future in LS11.

Daniel Farke has lost faith in Meslier, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 25-year-old leave the West Yorkshire outfit in the coming weeks.

Fenerbahce were linked with the ex-Lorient ace, but those rumours were quashed, and now his future may lie in the East Midlands.

Meslier transfer discussed by Leicester as Leeds United look for new goalkeeper

Leicester have discussed signing Meslier as a potential replacement for Hermansen, Ben Jacobs says.

The journalist has revealed that West Ham United will approach the Foxes for the Danish shot-stopper, and the Leeds goalkeeper may be available at Elland Road.

Jacobs expects the Whites to be looking for a new number one during the ongoing transfer window, and the Championship outfit are eyeing the 25-year-old Frenchman.

Speaking on talkSPORT (21 July), the journalist said: “My expectation is that West Ham are going to approach Leicester for Hermansen, a player Leicester didn’t want to leave 12 months ago at a value of £35million.

“Now the feeling is that number will drop because 12 months have passed, but he is contracted until 2028 still.

“Leicester, at the same time, are advancing on Asmir Begovic, who is available on a free transfer. They have discussed Illan Meslier at Leeds, who may be available because he didn’t finish strongly last season, so Leeds could be looking for a number one goalkeeper as well.”

Farke should push for Meslier upgrade at Leeds this transfer window

Meslier should consider a move to Leicester and return to the Championship if he hopes to secure regular game time in the upcoming campaign.

Karl Darlow deputised admirably in between the sticks for the West Yorkshire outfit towards the end of last season, but the Wales international can’t be expected to be the number one in the Premier League.

If the Peacocks want to avoid immediate relegation, they arguably need to strengthen their goalkeeping department.

Leeds have been linked with several shot-stoppers this summer, with Southampton star Aaron Ramsdale being one of them.

While the former Arsenal ace has had some difficult seasons after being replaced by David Raya in North London, the 27-year-old has consistently proven his top-flight pedigree over the years.

The Elland Road faithful will hope the Whites can cash in on Meslier and invest in a new goalkeeper before the end of August.
