Leicester ‘should beg Leeds’ as they try to seal Greenwood transfer

Sam Greenwood has struggled to break through to the first team at Leeds United.

Although he has several Premier League appearances under his belt, Daniel Farke seemingly has reservations about the 23-year-old.

As a result, the versatile player has made just one appearance for Leeds since relegation to the Championship, spending the last two seasons on loan with Middlesbrough and Preston North End.

Now, Leicester City are keen on his services as they return to the second tier this summer, much to the delight of many at Elland Road.

Leicester keen on Greenwood

As Farke looks ahead to life in the Premier League next season, he is searching for new options that could bolster his attack.

This does suggest that the Greenwood could see his options at Elland Road limited, while he is keen on getting regular minutes under his belt.

With just one year remaining on his contract in West Yorkshire, it could be seen as the ideal time to cash in, and according to the Daily Mail (17 June), Leicester City are weighing up a move.

As the Foxes return to the Championship, they are eager to go straight back up and see Greenwood as someone who could help them in doing so.

The 23-year-old is incredibly versatile and provided eight goal involvements in the league for Preston last season.

Leicester aren’t exactly a favourite in West Yorkshire, given their PSR charges and the subsequent promotion battle, which saw Leeds miss out themselves.

Taunting followed from players like Stephy Mavididi, but regular service will resume from next season, as the Whites prepare for the Premier League again.

Leeds to make Leicester beg for transfer

Leeds may not have turned to Greenwood in the Championship, but Farke could be reluctant to part ways just yet.

During Leeds’ last stint in the Premier League, Greenwood scored one goal for his side but in his best season racked up 18 appearances.

Therefore, the boss could see the youngster as being an option with some of the necessary experience to handle the top flight, while also providing a refreshing option in the final third.

Given Greenwood is entering the final year of his contract, an offer from Leicester could be tempting and something worth taking at Elland Road.

However, Leeds should be making the Foxes beg if they want this signing, ensuring they get the best possible deal, especially after the drama of the last two years.
