Leicester City ready to move for Illan Meslier in ‘surprise’ Phil Hay exit claim

Illan Meslier looks all but set to put an end to his miserable stay at Leeds United in the summer window.

Now that promotion has been achieved, Leeds can slowly start turning their focus to the summer transfer window, though they will still be keen to keep pushing for the Championship title.

Not only will the Whites have a decision to make on the future of Daniel Farke, but player sales and purchases will be crucial to their hopes of avoiding an immediate relegation from the Premier League.

The German has already shown where his faith lies when it comes to players currently at Elland Road, and those out of favour could very well be moved on.

Meslier could be offered Leeds exit route by Leicester

Meslier has been the talking point of the season for all of the wrong reasons this time out, and as a result, he has already lost his place to Karl Darlow.

It seems inevitable that the Frenchman will exit Leeds in the summer, and according to Phil Hay via Leeds United News, Leicester City could be a “surprise contender” for his services.

Meslier’s stats are made to look far better by the defensive foundation he had in front of him.

“Meslier, I struggle to see being first choice at Leeds again,” Hay said.

“It makes you think he needs a fresh start, and Leeds need to go after a new first-choice goalkeeper. I’d be really surprised if they don’t.”

Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg have also been tipped to make a move for Meslier, who could still demand a fairly pretty fee.

Leeds need to showcase ambition ahead of Premier League season

Being a top side in the Championship and being a Premier League side capable of surviving are two very different things in the modern world of English football, and Leeds need to find a way to bridge the gap.

Recruitment will play a key role in those ambitions for Leeds, and the injection of experience alongside that of quality will be crucial to any hopes that they have.

If Farke stays, he has the foundations of a very good squad, but as showcased throughout the current season, there are weaknesses that will need to be addressed as soon as the window opens.
