Legia Warsaw boss confirms contact over Leeds United midfielder Bogusz

Legia Warsaw manager Czesław Michniewicz has confirmed he’s made contact over a summer move for Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Bogusz.

Bogusz, 19, has spent this season on loan at Logrones in Spain’s second-tier, earning 22 appearances in all competitions and scoring one goal.

The ex-Ruch Chorzow midfielder, who Marcelo Bielsa has previously dubbed an “offensive playmaker” [LeedsLive] could be on his way to back to Poland in the summer though with Legia’s manager confirming efforts are being made to sign him.

When asked if he’s made contact over Bogusz, Michniewicz told TVP Sport: “Yes. We are in touch, but this is a complicated topic. The English club are in no hurry, it is not even known if Bielsa will lead Leeds next season.

“This is a distant topic because the club has time to choose the path for it’s midfielder. There will be something, but I do not count on Bogusz to become a serious topic for Legia from the beginning of the transfer window and the tournament.”

Keep him

Bogusz is only 19-years-old and is someone who may still have a future at Elland Road.

He’ll celebrate his 20th birthday in August and this season out on loan at Logrones will have no doubt done him the world of good.

When he’s back from Spain, there’s no doubt Leeds will have a better player returning to them than the one that left.

Bielsa clearly has plans for Bogusz too having played the central midfielder three times in the first team, including one appearance this season when he played against Hull City in the Carabao Cup.

As we all know, Bielsa doesn’t just hand out appearances for the sake of it and in cups, he usually plays players who are in his first-team plans but just aren’t regulars.

Bogusz could definitely be on the fringe of the senior squad next season and there’s no doubt he would have played some more games this term had he stays put.

But fair play to the teenager because he wanted to go out on loan and play football – you can’t blame him for that and it shows a great attitude and willingness to get better.
