Leeds youngster Jamie Shackleton set to make Millwall debut

Leeds United midfielder Jamie Shackleton is set to make his Millwall debut against Hammarby on Wednesday, 20 July after joining the club on loan, according to South London Press journalist Richard Cawley

The 22-year-old midfielder joined the Lions on a season-long loan on Tuesday (19 July) after making 19 appearances in all competitions last season for the Whites.

It is understood that he is now in line to make his debut for his new club on Wednesday in a pre-season friendly against Swedish first division side Hammarby at The Den, according to Cawley.

The midfielder said in a video posted on the Millwall official Twitter page: “I am delighted to be here and I can’t wait to see you all soon.”

Good move his progress?

The loan should be a good move for the 22-year-old’s progression after having his game time reduce dramatically after the Whites were promoted to the Premier League two years ago.

In his debut season, a 20-year-old Shackleton made 23 appearances in all competitions, including 21 Championship appearances.

However, Shackleton has only made 27 league appearances in the two seasons that have followed, 36% of Premier League games that Leeds have played, even having to feature in the Premier League Two on several occasions.

The central midfielder is a neat and two-footed midfielder who especially excelled in his debut season in 2019, adhering himself to fans calling then-manager, Marcelo Bielsa, to “Free Shackleton.” [Leeds Live]

He has also found himself back in the division where he made his name, at a club that will be pushing for promotion after finishing six points off the play-offs last season.

Hopefully for Shackleton, under manager Gary Rowett, he can find his feet again at the Den and remind people of the player he promised to become two years ago.

In other Leeds United news, the club are set for an exceptional financial boost, according to reports.
