Leeds work on deal to sign Ajax left-back Tagliafico

Leeds United are working on a deal to sign Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims Marcelo Bielsa wants to add a new left-back to his squad ahead of next season with Ezgjan Alioski likely to leave Elland Road.

It is understood Bielsa feels 28-year-old Argentina international Tagliafico would be an “ideal signing” and he “fits the bill” in terms of what he wants in a new left-back.

Big reputation

Tagliafico is someone who’s name is known across Europe.

The former Real Murcia left-back has been key to Ajax’s impressive form in recent seasons, playing a massive role in them reaching the Champions League semi-finals a couple of years ago.

According to the Mirror, he also has a massive reptuation as being a tough defender in the Eredivisie due to his disciplinary record. He’s received 41 yellow cards and two reds in just over three years for both Ajax and Argentina.

However, Tafliafico is very attack-minded.

In 135 appearances across all comeptitions for Ajax, Tagliafico has scored 13 goals and supplied 18 assists. One of those goals came in a win against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in 2018.

The Sun reports that Tagliafico could cost around £17.5million and he has “an agreement with Ajax that he can leave” in the summer with Manchester City and Chelsea also linked with him.

It would be one massive deal if Leeds can pull this off. Let’s hope the promise of a starting spot and the lure of playing for Bielsa works wonders on the Argentine ace.
