Leeds warned that Ben Brereton-Diaz not for sale in January – report

Blackburn have warned Leeds and other interested clubs that Ben Brereton-Diaz is not for sale in January, according to Sky Sports News.

The Chile international has been in magnificent form this season, scoring 20 goals for Rovers in the Championship to push them into the automatic promotion places in the table.

His goals have seen him linked with a move away from the club, with Leeds United one of several clubs linked with a potential £20m transfer during the winter window [EuroSport].

But according to new information from Sky Sports News, Blackburn’s owners want to keep the current squad intact and are looking to continue to support Tony Mowbray in the transfer market.

That means Brereton-Diaz leaving the club in mid-season is seen as ‘unlikely’, despite having just 18-months left on his contract at Ewood Park.

Blow

The news of Brereton-Diaz being off the market will undoubtedly be a blow to Leeds, who are desperate to get some goals into their side.

So far the Elland Road side have scored just 21 goals in 19 games this season and nobody except Raphinha has scored more than twice in the Premier League.

Brereton-Diaz would bring fresh energy to the side and at 22-years-old would represent a great investment in the playing squad.

It would be a step up in competition levels for him also, but the finishing ability he has shown so far in the Championship this season shows that his game has elevated over the last 12 months.

He has a variety of finishes in his weaponry, as well as a hunger to deliver and confidence to the brim. He will surely have seen the opportunity to move to Leeds as a huge challenge, but one he would’ve thrived on.

Instead, Leeds need to make an irresistible offer in January or take their attention elsewhere.
