Leeds want Wales international with £40m price-tag, Bielsa likes him – report
Leeds United are in the hunt to sign Bournemouth and Wales attacker David Brooks, according to WalesOnline.
The Welsh news outlet claims that Newcastle, Tottenham, West Ham, Leicester and Crystal Palace are also interested in signing the 23-year-old, who made nine Premier League appearances as Bournemouth were relegated to the Championship this season.
It is understood that despite Bournemouth’s drop into the second-tier, the south coast club values Brooks at a huge £40million.
However, it seems that Marcelo Bielsa is a fan of the former Sheffield United winger as he feels he would fit in perfectly with his style of play at Elland Road.
Brooks is predominantly a right-sided winger and we do not see why Leeds would need to spend so much money on adding a new face into that area of the squad.
The Yorkshire club has already signed Helder Costa permanently from Wolves while Ian Poveda was signed in January and the likes of Stuart Dallas, Tyler Roberts and Pablo Hernandez can also play there.
Brooks is a decent young player. As reported by The Telegraph, the Wales international was regarded as one of the best players in British football in his age bracket when he joined Bournemouth in 2018.
However, £40million is way too much for Leeds to spend on signing someone who really isn’t needed when Bielsa should be prioritising moves to sign one or two new centre-backs, perhaps another central midfielder and a centre-forward.
Bielsa may feel that Brooks suits his style of play but there are bound to be other players out there who will who want cost the club an arm and a leg.
