Leeds United are determined to sign goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a permanent basis from Lorient but could face a battle to land his signature, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper claims that the colossal 20-year-old, who stands at 6ft 6, has also caught the eye of Chelsea and Ligue 1 club Monaco.
It is no surprise that Meslier is attracting attention from other clubs after impressing at Elland Road this season despite making just three first-team appearances.
Leeds signed Meslier on a season-long loan last summer and he has mainly served as back-up to number one Kiko Casilla.
But in his three outings, Meslier has conceded just once and that was in the 1-0 defeat away at Arsenal in the FA Cup.
It is no surprise that Meslier’s emerged on the radar of Chelsea and reported comparisons to Real Madrid number one Thibaut Courtois, formerly of the Blues, is only going to increase speculation.
Leeds may be able to beat Chelsea to signing Meslier permanently though as the Mail claims that he is available for just £5million and the Whites are planning to use him as their first-choice goalkeeper if they win promotion to the Premier League.
Although Chelsea are an attractive club to join, the promise of being a number one goalkeeper for a Premier League club is going to be hard to turn down.
And considering he’s already spent almost a whole season at Elland Road, the move to West Yorkshire should be a no-brainer for the young Frenchman.
In other Leeds United news, David Prutton has said what Leeds’ first port of call must be if they win promotion.
