Leeds want to sign Getafe midfielder John Patrick

Leeds United want to sign Getafe midfielder John Patrick in the coming months, according to TEAMtalk.

The online outlet have reported that Manchester United, Everton and Burnley are also interested in the 18-year-old.

Born in Madrid, Patrick has pledged his allegiances to the Republic of Ireland and his current deal in Spain expires at the end of this season.

It is suggested that Leeds and other suitors could look to seal a bargain move in January or wait until the end of the season for a potential free-agent move.

Patrick stands at 6’4″ and is described as “rangy” with numerous La Liga appearances under his belt during his time at Getafe.

Given the lack of consistent selection in the first-team, the young midfield has been playing in the ‘B’ team, something that hasn’t deterred any of the interested quarter.

Patrick has now reportedly accepted a call into the Irish under-19s squad, so we could be able to get a taste of his attributes in the near future.

The midfield area has become a real issue at Elland Road.

Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas start most weeks, but behind them, there are little-to-no senior options.

Adam Forshaw is unavailable through injury nearly every single week, and after them, Lewis Bate is the name on everyone’s lips at under-23 level.

Having another player in that mould who could arrive for little-to-nothing in the coming months could be perfect.

Bate would be challenging Patrick for a spot in the first-team squad, and Mark Jackson would likely have both available most weeks to thrive in the under-23s.

Patrick having senior experience in La Liga is also a major bonus, and that could make this a move with no risk attached to it, especially if Victor Orta can work his magic on the deal.
