Leeds want to sign energetic 26y/o forward destined to exit EFL club this summer - report

Leeds United, Swansea and Celtic are all interested in signing Wigan forward Jamal Lowe this summer, according to KickGH.

The Ghanaian news outlet, who have almost 70,000 Facebook followers, reports on their website that the three clubs are chasing Lowe’s signature following Wigan’s relegation to League One.

It is understood that the “energetic” 26-year-old is destined to exit the DW Stadium before the transfer window closes and that Leeds are keen on a deal.

Lowe scored six goals and supplied five assists in 46 Championship appearances for Wigan last season with three of those assists coming in the same game when the Latics won 8-0 against Hull in July.

It has been a year to remember for Wigan fans for all the wrong reasons despite a series of impressive performances on the pitch as the Latics entered administration in July and suffered a fatal 12-point deduction.

Leeds have already picked at the carcass of the one-time FA Cup champions by signing talented youngster Joe Gelhardt from them and it seems Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta are ready to continue taking advantage of the League One club’s financial misfortune.

Lowe only joined Wigan last summer from Portsmouth and the south coast club are still owed £750,000 in unpaid fees, according to Wigan Today.

Wigan will probably demand at least that upfront before cashing in on Lowe but Bielsa is said to be in the hunt for a player exactly like the former Pompey attacker.

Lowe can play on both wings and as a centre-forward and that is likely to interest Bielsa because Sky Sports journalist Tim Thornton has reported that “we could see [Leeds] add another winger”.

Bielsa likes versatile players and Lowe is as versatile as a forward can get.

We just have doubts about whether a 26-year-old  player who finished in the bottom half of the Championship can make it in the Premier League but if Bielsa just wants Lowe to add more depth to his options on a cut-price deal, we’re all for it.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have tabled an offer for this Dutch attacker.
