Leeds United have confirmed that Helder Costa has joined them on a permanent basis from Wolves but the Yorkshire club’s recruitment drive is only starting to warm up.
According to TeamTalk, Leeds want to sign two more of their loan players on permanent deals “in the next few weeks”, with Jack Harrison and Illan Meslier in their sights.
Harrison has spent the last two seasons at Elland Road from Manchester City while Meslier has only recently taken a spot in the first-team since joining on loan from Lorient last summer.
TeamTalk reports that, sooner rather than later, Leeds are expected to spend £13million on tying Harrison and Meslier down to full-time contracts.
Both deals are ones that Leeds fans should be excited about.
Harrison had his critics last season but the 23-year-old is now fully accustomed to playing in Marcelo Bielsa’s side having earned 86 appearances across all competitions for the Whites.
This season, he has scored six goals and supplied eight assists in 41 Championship matches, proving himself to be one of the most important players in Bielsa’s squad.
As for Meslier, the 20-year-old goalkeeper has a bit of work to do to prove that he can be Leeds’ number one next season if they are in the Premier League.
The Frenchman has kept three clean sheets in seven appearances for Leeds but has frustrated some fans and Bielsa with his distribution.
However, Meslier is still young and can improve leaps and bounds if he signs permanently at Elland Road, learns the trade under Bielsa and get more game-time.
We’re excited about both of these players signing, more so than Costa.
