Leeds want ‘domino effect’ to trigger Archer deal after bid made
Leeds United remain hopeful of signing Southampton forward Cameron Archer before the 3 February deadline, according to Graham Smyth.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported on Saturday (1 February) that the Whites hope transfers in the Premier League will allow Southampton to strengthen the front line in a “domino effect” in the closing days of the window, thus softening their stance on Archer.
Leeds saw an initial loan approach for Archer rejected on Thursday 30 January [Alex Crook] but are not prepared to give up on the forward with less than two days left of the winter transfer window.
Leeds United will chase Cameron Archer until the deadline
Daniel Farke wants a new forward to bolster his ranks before the deadline, and the German may be set to get his wish.
The 23-year-old has been excluded from the Southampton matchday squad to face Ipswich Town on Saturday (1 February) amid the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
Although Leeds are leading the Championship table, question marks remain about Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph’s ability to fire the side into the Premier League.
Furthermore, Patrick Bamford will be sidelined for the foreseeable future, meaning Farke has now prioritised a new striker.

It is clear Ivan Juric has no plans to utilise Archer as the forward struggles to adapt to the new style of play at St Mary’s.
Nevertheless, there is little time left for Archer to make the move to Elland Road, but his exclusion from matchday duties is certainly a positive sign for the Leeds faithful, who remain optimistic that a deal can be struck.
Regarding the “domino effect” the Whites are waiting for, the chips could fall into place as the Premier League sides scramble to bolster their squads before the deadline.
