Leeds United’s summer signing could depart already as Euro club hold transfer talks

One Leeds star who has played just two minutes of Premier League football this season could exit Elland Road in January.

Leeds’ summer business is finally starting to prevail, with the Whites now six points clear of the relegation zone and guaranteed to be outside of it at the end of 2025.

Anton Stach was widely regarded as the best summer addition, though Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s sudden upturn in form has seen him claim the feat of being the best arrival of the window.

However, while there were certainly more positives than negatives, some of the business conducted was questionable, and one of those who falls into that category could be on his way out already.

Sebastian Bornauw heads for Elland Road exit

Leeds prioritised their defence in the summer window, and with Jaka Bijol and Gabriel Gudmundsson both thriving in the Premier League, it certainly paid off.

However, there were also several poor transfers in the defensive region, with the likes of Sebastian Bornauw and James Justin having barely featured this season.

The latter is starting to get some exposure to gametime, mainly as a late substitute in games, whereas the former has played just two minutes of Premier League football.

Now, Bild have reported that FC Koln have held internal talks over a possible January move for the Belgian defender, who left there to join Wolfsburg back in 2021.

The Bundesliga side are likely to push for a loan deal for Bornauw if that interest is to go further.

Why did Leeds sign Bornauw?

Thankfully, it meant little in the end thanks to Calvert-Lewin, but the 49ers gave PSR as the reason behind their inability to strengthen Leeds’ attack in the final week of the window.

That would have been a reasonable explanation had it not been for the fact that they spent around £15million on Bornauw and Justin, who have combined to play just 162 minutes of football in the Premier League.

As for why Bornauw was brought in, it was clearly for depth, but given the lack of time he has on the pitch, it makes little sense as to why the Whites paid what they did for him to come to Elland Road to sit on the bench.

With the January transfer window arriving, and Leeds potentially set to be active in some regards, they can’t make the same error again.
