Leeds United’s dream July transfers – Gudmundsson followed by coveted striker

Leeds United have obvious positions they need to strengthen in the transfer window.

Leeds have already confirmed three summer signings so far. Jaka Bijol looks set to play a key part in the Whites’ bid to stay in the Premier League, whilst Lukas Nmecha and Sebastiaan Bornauw have been brought in as perceived squad options.

With plenty of the month still go go, MOT Leeds News outlines Leeds’ dream July transfers.

Gabriel Gudmundsson needed at Elland Road following Junior Firpo exit

Following Firpo’s emotional exit from West Yorkshire, Leeds are now in the market for a left-back.

Gudmundsson is someone on the 49ers’ radar to bring to Elland Road, with the Swedish defender currently playing for Lille in Ligue 1.

Gudmundsson, 26, has multiple years of top-flight experience in France and Holland that would prove to be valuable in Leeds’ attempt to avoid relegation.

Jayden Bogle and Firpo were crucial to Daniel Farke’s system last season, with both players allowed to play like wingers due to United’s domination within games in the Championship.

This is unlikely to be the case next season, and with Bogle on one side, Farke may need a more defensively minded full-back on the opposite flank.

Stats (per game)Gabriel Gudmundsson (2024/25 season)Junior Firpo (2024/25 season)
Dribbled Past 0.40.8
Possession lost 8.513.3
Long balls0.9 (45.8%)0.7 (31.9%)
Despite facing better opposition, Gudmundsson was dribbled past fewer times than Firpo per game (Sofascore).

It is no secret that Leeds must spend money in the transfer window, and investing in a left-back that seems to be more defensively responsible than Firpo looks to be a wise move.

Callum Wilson to provide Premier League experience to Leeds’ frontline

Leeds have found out through their pursuit of Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz that purchasing Premier League experience will come at a premium.

Wilson would provide this luxury to Farke on a free, with the striker proving to be up there as one of the best strikers in the division when fit.

Leeds are in desperate need of a number nine, and with Mateo Joseph’s future up in the air, the 49ers have an obvious position they must recruit in.

If the Whites could strike a deal with Wilson that includes a small up-front salary, but with large appearance fees due to his injury record, then a deal would be suitable for both parties.

If Leeds could keep Wilson available, then bringing a striker with 88 Premier League goals under his belt to Elland Road seems like a no-brainer.
