Leeds United will try to sign Newcastle United ace Sean Longstaff as £15m update emerges
Leeds United will try to sign Newcastle United ace Sean Longstaff if they are promoted to the Premier League this season.
That is according to the Sunday Mirror, with the newspaper reporting in its print edition (page 66, 17 March) that Daniel Farke has the midfielder firmly in his sights.
The newspaper added that the Whites would be looking to sign Longstaff, who has had preliminary talks over a new Magpies deal, for no more than £15million.
Can Leeds United tempt Newcastle United ace Sean Longstaff to Elland Road?
Longstaff has been superb for Newcastle this season, with the midfielder being heavily relied upon by manager Eddie Howe, with the manager expressing this week that he is a “really important” player for the club [Chronicle Live, 15 March].
But the Whites may look to take advantage of his contract situation at St James’ Park, with the 26-year-old entering the final year of his deal this summer.
Newcastle would be foolish not to extend that deal as soon as possible given how important he is for them, particularly amid all of the injury issues Howe has had to deal with lately.
But Leeds could swoop in with a tempting offer for the midfielder, which will, of course, only be successful if they are promoted to the Premier League this season.

That is a very real possibility for Farke and his players given their efforts in the current Championship campaign, with the Elland Road club sitting third in the table.
There is, however, still a long way to go this season, with many more twists and turns expected in the English second division.
