Leeds United will need to move quickly to sign Gustavo Hamer after latest transfer update

Leeds United are keen to sign a new playmaker before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

Facundo Buonanotte was linked with Leeds United from Brighton, but the young Argentinian has opted to join Chelsea instead.

Leeds are now looking for alternatives to Buonanotte, and Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer is seemingly top of their list.

There has been progress in Leeds’ pursuit of Hamer, but Leeds will have to act quickly or they’ll risk being gazumped again.

PSV Eindhoven set to make late bid for Leeds target Gustavo Hamer

It’s thought that Hamer could be looking for an escape route out of Sheffield United, following their terrible start to the season in the Championship.

Their manager Ruben Selles admitted that he “can’t predict the future” when asked about the Brazilian’s future.

Leeds are yet to submit a bid for Hamer, and they may now face a fight to sign him with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven.

Football League World reports that PSV will target Hamer if they sell their playmaker Joey Veerman to Brentford.

Hamer could be the missing puzzle piece for Leeds in the Premier League

Daniel Farke has built a strong and competent Leeds team during this transfer window.

The spine of the team looks particularly reliable with Lucas Perri in goal, Jaka Bijol at centre-back, and Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff marshalling the midfield.

However, early signs suggest that Leeds still need to add some creative flair to their attack.

They’re yet to score from open play in the league, and their wingers are yet to prove that they can thrive at the highest level.

Hamer likes to play in the number 10 role behind the striker. He tore Championship defences to shreds for Sheffield United last year.

It’s a big step up to do the same in the Premier League, but he could be worth a punt for Leeds. The Whites clearly need someone who can weave some magic in the final third.
