Leeds United will face summer battle with RB Leipzig to sign Brenden Aaronson
Leeds United may have to battle AC Milan and RB Leipzig to sign Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer, according to Manuel Veth.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on deadline day today (31 January), the Forbes journalist reported that he’s “not surprised” by Leeds giving up on signing Aaronson, 21, this month and shifting their focus to the summer.
Veth said: “Sources have told me from the very beginning that there was no chance of a winter move to [Leeds]”.

Veth also suggested that the Jean-Kevin Augustin situation should be sorted out by the summer too with Leeds in a dispute with Red Bull-owned Leipzig over their failure to buy the French striker in 2020.
Veth then added that Leeds won’t be the only team gunning for Aaronson in the summer and suggested that their position in the Premier League means a move to Elland Road doesn’t appeal to the USA midfielder right now.
One for the summer
Leeds’ January has been a joke.
Marcelo Bielsa may feel as though his squad is fine and that he doesn’t need to add anyone else to it. But literally everyone else feels as though there’s a need to at least add one midfielder.
Aaronson would have been ideal and signing him now would not have just been to fill a void between now and the end of the season. He’s a young player who’d get better and better and also suits Bielsa’s system really well.
And you also have to realise that there’s no guarantee Bielsa will be at Elland Road past the end of this season.

Vitor Orta more than likely will be here and may have to find a new manager in the summer if Bielsa doesn’t extend his contract.
Why isn’t Orta putting his foot down and saying that as Bielsa might not be here next season, he’s going to sign a player who he wants here for next season and beyond?
Bielsa has done wonders for Leeds – we get that. But there comes a point where the hierarchy has to step in and look after the long-term impact of Bielsa’s steadfast approach to transfer windows.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made a last-gasp approach to sign a player from Chelsea.
