Leeds United want to sign West Ham right-back Ben Johnson as four-year contract offer made
Ben Johnson has rejected a four-year contract offer from West Ham United as Leeds United eye the defender on a free transfer this summer, according to The Athletic.
Roshane Thomas reported (15 May), that the fullback is set to depart when his contract expires in June.
Leeds are showing an interest alongside Crystal Palace and Rangers in the Englishman who has rejected multiple contract approaches so far.
West Ham tabled a four-year contract to Johnson but the two failed to reach an agreement, potentially due to a lack of regular game time.
Could Leeds United sign Ben Johnson this summer?
The lack of game time at West Ham for the defender has been clear for all to see which has led to him forcing an exit.
He has started just four games this season and has made 10 further substitute appearances, featuring across just 538 minutes [FotMob].
Given that Johnson has the versatility to play in various positions across the backline as well as stepping up into the midfield.
With it looking clear he is going to leave the East London outfit, a move to Leeds could suit him in his search for regular minutes.
Next season he would be in a battle for a starting role against the likes of Sam Byram, Junior Firpo and to some extent Archie Gray.

This would more than likely see him be able to sign as a starting option for Daniel Farke’s squad.
Johnson moving to Elland Road could hinge on Leeds’ league status whether they’re in the Premier League or Championship.
