Leeds United want to sign Philip Billing as Bournemouth exit news emerges

Leeds United are one of three Championship clubs interested in signing Denmark midfielder Philip Billing from Bournemouth, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist posted on his Patreon page (24 August) to report that the Whites, Sheffield United and Burnley have all been credited with interest in the 28-year-old, who “could be available” for a move.

Sheffield United have emerged as the “most serious” of the sides bidding to sign Billing this summer, with Daniel Farke’s side having already made a £13million offer for Blades midfielder Gustavo Hamer [The Star, 26 August].

Former Huddersfield Town midfielder Billing remains a target for Farke though, and the Peacocks risk missing out on the Dane with Sheffield United “planning to spend” before the transfer window shuts.

Leeds United must make midfield transfer decision quickly

There is no time to waste whatsoever as the 30 August transfer deadline approaches at Elland Road, with Farke in need of players if his squad is to be on a par with the side which won 90 points last season.

For all the talk of United signing as many as four new players in the wake of Largie Ramazani’s arrival from Almeria on 22 August, the Belgian winger remains is still yet to be joined by any other new players.

Manor Solomon’s arrival on loan from Tottenham is reportedly imminent [David Ornstein, 26 August], and as such it seems sensible for Farke to switch his attention further back and address the Glen Kamara-shaped hole in midfield.

Joe Rothwell’s arrival on loan won’t be enough to fill the gap left by both Kamara and Archie Gray’s exits this summer, but returning to Bournemouth with a bid for Billing could do just that and then some.

With Sheffield United demanding a record-breaking transfer fee for the Peacocks to pluck Hamer away from Bramall Lane [Nixon, 27 August], signing a Premier League-proven player in Billing as an alternative may be the wisest possible move.

In other Leeds United news, Farke has issued an update on Patrick Bamford’s availability for the day after the window shuts.
