Leeds United want to sign Moldova international Oleg Reabciuk
Leeds United are in pursuit of 23-year-old Olympiacos defender Oleg Reabciuk ahead of the January transfer window, according to a professional football scout.
The scout runs the ‘Football Insights’ Twitter account which gained traction during the summer transfer window as they regularly broke news ahead of major news outlets, such as this tweet on Sheffield United’s interest in Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, four days ahead of Sky Sports.
They are also followed by the likes of Sky Sports’ George Elek on Twitter.
Now, with more than two months until the winter window, the scout has provided some Leeds transfer news.
“First piece of transfer news gearing up for the January window,” they wrote. “And it is one for Leeds fans.
“Leeds United are looking into the possibility of signing Olympiacos left-back Oleg Reabciuk.
“The Moldovan international is likely to cost between €10-15million [£8.4-12.6million].”
Reabciuk is unlikely to be a name well-known to the masses on these shores, but he has accrued vital experience around Europe over the last few years.
He has played in the Champions League and Europa League with Olympiacos, scoring a stunning late winner over Royal Antwerp in the latter last month, while he has won 31 caps for Moldova, including September’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Scotland at Hampden Park.
However, despite those impressive feats, the fact that he is a left-back is likely to wrangle with fans who are desperate for the Whites to sign a new midfielder or centre-forward in January.
Clearly, those positions are of more urgency with Patrick Bamford, for example, injured in recent weeks.
But, Junior Firpo remains the only senior left-back option at the club, with no obvious contender to his throne at Under-23 level yet.
Given his uncertain start, coupled with his recent absences as well, something that has forced Stuart Dallas back to left-back, it would be wise for the club to target another player in that position, someone who can cover for Firpo and potentially challenge him for a starting berth.
In other Leeds United news, Adrian Durham has mocked the Whites on talkSPORT, suggesting a big change may be required.
