Leeds United want to sign Jordan Torunarigha from Gent – Sky Sports

Leeds United want to sign Gent centre-back Jordan Torunarigha this summer ahead of Hoffenheim, according to Florian Plettenberg.

Writing on his personal X account (22 May), the Sky Sports Germany journalist reports that the 26-year-old could leave the Belgian side after a “top season”, with a deal likely to cost in the region of £2.1 – £2.5million.

Torunarigha is in the final year of his contract and was a target for Stuttgart last summer, but a deal never materialised and he is now “one to watch” during this summer window.

“News Torunarigha | One year left on his contract after a top season of the 26 y/o center-back from Gent,” he wrote.

‘Transfer in summer possible with a price valuation of around €2.5-3m (£2.1-2.5m). Stuttgart was interested in the new Nigerian international in summer to replace Zagadou with injury.

“Keen on him now: Hoffenheim and Leeds United! One to watch…”

Leeds United preparing for life after Joe Rodon and Liam Cooper?

A busy summer is expected at Elland Road this summer, with several players likely to leave the club at the end of their contract including captain Liam Cooper.

That would immediately open up a spot in the squad for a new central defender, but Charlie Cresswell is also considering his options to move elsewhere and Joe Rodon’s loan is due to expire after the playoff final.

There is no guarantee that Rodon stays and Torunarigha is a player who could step in with experience, having been capped once by Nigeria and represented Germany at youth level.

It would certainly be an affordable deal and Plettenberg is usually someone who is very reliable when it comes to transfers.

Leeds are planning ahead for next season, and a new defender will be a necessity no matter what league they’re playing in, so it’s good to see moves are on the cards already.

In other Leeds news, one Premier League club are expected to sell this star amid interest from Elland Road but they could also be forced to keep him.
