Leeds United want to sign Jason Knight from Derby this summer

Leeds United are interested in signing Derby midfielder Jason Knight this summer after their relegation to League One, according to Leeds Live [June 3].

The Whites are keen to bolster their squad this summer after narrowly escaping relegation from the Premier League in the 2021/22 season, with a win on the final day keeping them up.

And now they’re looking to make additions to the squad and Jesse Marsch has identified 21-year-old Knight as someone who could shore up the options in midfield ahead of the new season.

“21-year-old expansive midfielder Jason Knight has put together another solid season in the Championship at the young age of 21 and is garnering interest from several clubs, including Leeds,” they wrote in their article.

The player has admitted that it would be “a dream” to play in the Premier League, but says he won’t make a move unless he knows he is going to play regularly and continue to develop after enjoying a great season individually where he played 38 games.

Leeds have been very good at identifying young talents and bringing them to the club to help mould them, and Knight fits into that category once more.

Lewis Bate joined from Chelsea last season and found first-team chances hard to come by but Marsch gave him an opportunity towards the end of the season, and that could be encouraging for Knight.

It wouldn’t be an expensive deal to do, with Derby’s financial situation awful, and to bring in a player who already has international experience is always a positive too.

He’s also incredibly versatile, with WhoScored’s data showing that he played in ten different positions across the season including right-back and left wing as well as his natural central midfield position.

To bolster numbers in the squad and add some quality and depth, Knight looks like a solid option and is a deal that many fans will get behind too.

His attitude and influence has been praised by current boss Wayne Rooney and it’s that type of player that could do big things at Elland Road next season and beyond.
