Leeds United want to sign international star Charles Pickel ahead of Celtic

Leeds United have a “serious interest” in Cremonese midfielder Charles Pickel this summer, but face competition from Celtic, according to Football Scotland.

Writing on its website (24 April), the news outlet has reported that the Serie B ace has been offered to the Scottish Premiership champions ahead of the summer transfer window as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his options.

Leeds and Preston also have an interest in the DR Congo international, who has a contract that runs until 2026 and would cost a “decent-sized fee”.

Leeds United need midfield reinforcements this summer

The summer transfer window at Elland Road is going to be a very interesting one, with plenty of business expected to be done by the club.

The Whites have got several players out on loan who are due to return after a summer holiday, but it’s expected that the majority of them will leave again while players like Jamie Shackleton and Liam Cooper are out of contract also.

That means Daniel Farke will need to strengthen the team, but a lot of what he can do during the window will be dependent on whether or not the club are in the Premier League or Championship.

Pickel is capable of playing at right-back or in central midfield so could provide the perfect competition for Archie Gray in those positions, while also offering excellent quality coverage with his experience.

But beating Celtic, who can offer European football and a chance at competing for trophies regularly, to his signature will not be easy so this will be an interesting deal to watch unfold.

In other Leeds news, a Premier League regular has been told to move to Elland Road as he would be “absolutely perfect” for Daniel Farke’s side.
