Leeds United want to sign Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, exit ‘Increasingly Likely’
Leeds United want to sign Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill after he failed to agree a new contract, according to TEAMtalk.
Writing on their official website (17 August), the news outlet report that the Whites are among several clubs interested in signing the 27-year-old with an exit now looking “increasingly likely” at Turf Moor.
Brownhill was left out of the squad for the team’s opening day defeat to Manchester City, and Leeds could make a move to bolster Daniel Farke’s squad but face competition from Wolves, Everton, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Middlesbrough for his signature.

“Wolves are ready to test Burnley’s resolve to keep midfield star Josh Brownhill, TEAMtalk understands,” they wrote.
“And with just 12 months left on his current deal, a number of clubs are looking closely at Brownhill, with the Clarets keen to avoid losing the player as a free agent next summer.
“But they are not Brownhill’s only admirers. We also understand that Crystal Palace, Everton, Leeds, Leicester and Middlesbrough are also keen.
“However, with the player no nearer to agreeing an extension, a parting of ways looks increasingly likely before the summer window closes on Friday September 1.”
Needed
Central midfield is without a doubt the area of the squad where Leeds are weakest right now, and that includes if Tyler Adams ends up sticking around beyond the deadline.
Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray have started the season as the first-choice pairing, while Jamie Shackleton and Sam Greenwood are also options but Farke has made it clear he wants additions before the transfer window closes.

Brownhill was an important member of the Burnley squad that achieved promotion last season and that experience would come in handy at Elland Road, while any transfer fee would likely not be too high because of his contract status.
With other Premier League clubs reportedly interested it may be hard to convince him to turn that down for another season in the Championship, but with a regular starting spot far more achievable it could be done for the player who was once described as “fabulous”.
It’s one to keep an eye on for sure, but it certainly isn’t one that is close to being done.
In other Leeds news, Manchester City offered chance to sign Whites star in recent hours according to a Sky Sports journalist.
