Leeds United want to sign Ben Davies as Tottenham transfer news emerges

Leeds United want to sign Tottenham defender Ben Davies on loan in the January transfer window if business at Spurs before deadline day makes him available, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist reported on 17 January that the interest is purely speculative as things stand, but Davies has joined Rangers defender Borna Barisic and Luton’s Ryan Giles on the list of targets.

A move to Elland Road would see Davies link up with fellow Tottenham loanee and countryman Joe Rodon, who has enjoyed a fantastic first half of the season under Daniel Farke.

A surprise late move

While it is clarified that the interest is only speculative as things stand, a late move to bring the Welsh international to Elland Road would come as a shock to many, particularly given the role Davies has played under Ange Postecoglou so far this season.

Spurs have endured an injury crisis at the back with the likes of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero missing several games, which has seen Davies used as a makeshift centre-back rather than his usual left-back role.

However, at Leeds, he would be the star man in that more natural position, given his quality and experience as well as the injury issues faced by Sam Byram and Junior Firpo on several occasions already this season.

Davies would be able to gel immediately with the squad, as he would be joining international teammates Rodon, Daniel James and Ethan Amapdu in the Welsh contingent at Elland Road, while adding an immediate boost to the quality on show under Farke.
