Leeds United want to sign attacking midfielder Ateef Konate after he was released by Nottingham Forest, according to AfricaFoot.

Writing on their website (29 May), the news outlet report that the 23-year-old attacker is subject to interest from a host of Football League clubs including the Whites, Sunderland and Derby as well as sides from the Eredivisie.

Daniel Farke is expected to lose first-team stars after the club's failure to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Leeds United can afford a gamble this summer

There are going to be plenty of transfers in and out of Elland Road and the manager will need to be sure that his squad is strong enough to compete in the 2024/25 campaign once again.

But while money will come in and money will be spent on replacements, there is room for a gamble or two that could prove to be wildcards.

Konate is a talented player but he has struggled for first-team football hence his release from the City Ground at the end of his contract.

Daniel Farke failed to win promotion at Leeds United in his first season.

However, at 23-years-old you have to question the reason for that and if he isn't good enough to break into the Forest first-team then he shouldn't be the level of player coming into Elland Road.

It will be interesting to see if this deal ends up happening, but it's likely to be more that he wants to join than the team want to bring him in.
