Leeds United want to agree structured deal for Nahitan Nandez

Leeds United are “very close” to signing Nahitan Nandez from Cagliari but the Yorkshire club wants to pay his release clause in instalments, according to La Nuova Sardegna.

The Sardinian newspaper reports that Nandez, 25, has a release clause worth £30.9million at Cagliari.

It is understood that Leeds are willing to pay that but want to do so in two separate instalments.

Leeds United

Makes sense

There’s no doubting that Leeds have a fair bit of money to spend.

They didn’t buy anyone in the January transfer window, spent over £100million last year after promotion and have won investment from the 49ers.

There’s no reason to worry about our financial situation but it makes sense for the club to try and defer payments for a player if they can.

It’s quite rare that players move clubs for a lump sum with all the cash paid instantly with instalments, add-ons, bonuses and clauses being super common.

We don’t see why Cagliari wouldn’t say yes to a structured payment for Nandez unless their financial situation is dire so the Serie A club should accept that.

It remains to be seen how Nandez will do in the Premier League if he joins Leeds but he’s a versatile midfielder who can play out wide or in the middle of the pitch.

If anyone is going to get him playing well it will be Marcelo Bielsa so if a deal can be agreed with Cagliari, we have every faith in Leeds to make him a good signing.
